SERGEY KURGINYAN

       Sergey Kurginyan was born in 1949 in a family of Moscow intellectuals. His father was a professor of modern history, specializing on the Middle Eastern problems. His mother was a senior researcher in the Institute for World Literature, named after Maxim Gorky.

        Sergey Kurginyan received a degree in geophysics, graduating from the Geological Prospecting Institute (1972). Ph.D. in physical and mathematical sciences, research fellow at the USSR Academy of Sciences’ Oceanology Institute (1974-1980). Up to 1986 - senior research fellow at the applied cybernetics lab, Geological Prospecting Institute. Academician, National Academy for Social Technologies (2006). Visiting Distinguished fellow of the Observer Research Foundation, New-Delhi (2010).

        He devotes himself to political philosophy and decision making strategies, to the analysis of the political processes in Russia and in the world and of the post-capitalist ideologies.

        On many occasions he visited conflict areas in order to provide expert opinion to the Central Committee of the CPSU and later to the leadership of the Supreme Soviet (parliament) of the Russian Federation.

        In the late 1980s, the concept ofSupermodern was formulated by Sergey Kurginyan, according to which implementation of the mobilization project is required in order to arrange Russia’s transition to post-industrial and post-capitalist stage.

        It was Sergey Kurginyan’s notion, that in order to clear the modernization barrier the country had to lean on the intellectuals in the society (predominantly on the scientific and technical elite). Thus, in 1990, he founded and came to head the International Public Foundation “Experimental Creative Center (aka Kurginyan Center). The Centerabsorbed a number of labs and structures that possessed the break-through products in different areas.

        In 1993, Kurginyan became an adviser to Ruslan Khasbulatov, Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.

        In 1996, he suggested that the representatives of big business should unite and take constructive pro-State stand. The famous “Letter of 13” was the result of this initiative.

        He is the author of several books and numerous articles published in Russia and abroad.        

        Sergey Kurginyan is a frequent guest of the talk shows at the main Russian TV and radio channels, as well as of the international mass media programs.

        In 2010 -2011, co-anchoring political TV shows the Verdict of Times (Channel 5) and Historical Process (State Channel 2), he defended the historical values of Russia, both of the Soviet and the pre-revolutionary period, and never lost to his liberal opponents, getting between 75 and 96%  approval rate of the audience on the air. In May, 2012, the Historical Process show received the highest Russian TV award (TEFI) under the nomination The best program on history.

In 2011, Sergey Kurginyan launched his own series of Internet TV broadcasts under the title Essence of time. Like-minded people, uniting around this program, formed a Virtual Club Essence of Time, which Sergey Kurginyan is leading.                   

Sergey Kurginyan is the editor-in-chief of theRussia XXIjournal (since 1993) and of the School of Integral Analysis almanac (since1998). He runs intellectual discussion Substantial Unity club

Yet during his student days, Sergey Kurginyan created drama school NA DOSKAH (On the boards) which professes philosophical and metaphysical approach towards the existent reality, and has since been its permanent head and director-in-chief. He completed the Art of drama direction course at the Moscow Schukin Drama School (1983). In 1986, the Na Doskah was awarded the State theatre status.

Since 1994, Sergey Kurginyan has been participating in the international congresses and symposiums on a regular basis, conducting workshops and seminars in Moscow and abroad.
